An essential part of an electric fence system, the earth rod is hammered into the ground and connected to the fence energiser by insulated wire (not household electrical wire) to complete the electric fence circuit.
The hot dipped galvanised rod is 92cm in length and comes with a brass clamp to securely hold the wire against rod and won't corrode or rust.
Ideally more than one rod, preferably three, should be used on larger systems (10km and up) spaced 5m apart.
Locate (within 25m of the energiser) an area of soil for placing ground rods that contains good conductive earth (not sandy or rocky). Soil that is moist throughout the year is best. You can water the earth sites during the year if sufficient ground moisture is not available.
Your earth wire should always be equal to or larger in diameter than your positive wire coming out of the energiser.
